Kelly Preston and
John Travolta are married since 1989. John Travolta married Kelly Preston twice. Their first wedding on 5 September 1991, by a French scientologist minister, was declared illegal. The couple met during the filming of The Experts.
Kelly Preston and John Travolta first met in the year 1987, where the movie “The Experts” was being shot in Toronto at the time. However, at that time, they were both in a relationship, so they just stayed friends. Kelly admits, they were always attracted to one another, but neither of them was willing to jeopardize the relationships they had.
John said that what really attracted him to Kelly was that fact that even though things werenÂ’t that straight in her relationship, she was willing to stick it out and make things work. He admired her character and prayer to God that if ever they were single at the same time, he would go for her.
Fate definitely dealt one in their favor, when they were reunited in 1990, In Vancouver, Canada, at the time, she was out of her marriage, and she was willing to date John Travolta three years later.
John: "Sex is so organic and so natural that if [an unhappy sex life] becomes the reason you break up, then you didn't have a good relationship to begin with. If you had [satisfying sex] in the first place and you liked it and it starts to diminish, it has to do with something else ... But I don't think it's the most important thing in a relationship ... If you can't have fun with sex when you're married, when can you? The longer you've been with a partner, the easier it is to explore and create and have fun."
Kelly: "Love is much more than instant attraction. It's about honesty and trust and commitment - keeping it alive."
John: "Marriage is complicated and you can do without it. But a baby has to have a real father and a real mother."
Kelly: "You have to go out on dates with your husband -- little sexy dates. Even if it's simple, like going out for dinner and dancing and making out -- simple pleasures that are kind of wonderful."
Kelly: "I fell in love with the man, not the career."
Kelly: "One thing I've learned is that you really have to keep creating your marriage. You can't let it sort of drift off to be however it will be ... We never go to bed angry. We work it out before we go to sleep unless we're too, too exhausted. Then we put it on hold until first thing. We know what each other's buttons are --so we don't push them. Neither of us likes to yell, so we don't. I think these rules are really what have been the basis for us, because we've had so much affection, love, respect, enjoyment, and fun."
Kelly: "There are hard times, but they are few and far between. We almost never fight because we know what pushes each other's buttons and we have made an agreement not to push them." She pauses, then adds with a just-between-us-girls giggle, "And the sex is always okay!"
John: "And I think that unless you work at it on a regular basis, it's going to fall apart. Part of the old-fashioned thing is through thick or thin and for better or worse. And when you say worse, you have to really work through worse --because anyone can work through better. It's much tougher to work through worse. Even though Kelly and I have had our moments, we just decided to work through them."
